Hello, I am Frank
alphanull represents the Hamburg-based designer and developer Frank Kudermann, and there are two hearts beating in my chest. One beats for the arts, creativity, and music. The other is that of a nerd with a deep fascination for computers, coding, and of course: computer graphics! So it was only natural that both sides converged when I found my way into the magical wonderland of the internet over 25 years ago.
My focus lies therefore in the realm of web frontends, where I can symbiotically combine my passions. This enables me to offer my clients not only extensive experience but also a rare interdisciplinary expertise in two closely related fields that go hand in hand, especially when it comes to creating web frontends and apps. In addition, alphanull can offer expertise in (web) video, motion graphics, corporate design, as well as general planning, consulting, and project management.
Design
With a background in Communication Design, I have experience in various design forms, from classic print layouts to digital media. At alphanull, design and development go hand in hand! My understanding of browser mechanics gives me insight into both the limitations and possibilities. This awareness helps me avoid unfeasible ideas while also allowing me to explore innovative concepts that might not be immediately obvious. Design Services
Web
Designing for the web involves more than just aesthetics; it includes user interaction, as the web is a dynamic medium. alphanull provides expertise in the entire web design process, covering UI, UX, general planning, and the creation of various assets, including graphics and media conversions.
Motion & Animation
Motion breathes life into my designs! alphanull focuses on individual and well optimized web-based animations - as seen on this page - and is also capable of producing animated videos using After Effects and other tools.
Corporate Design
Corporate Design encompasses the visual representation of corporate identity, including essential elements like logos, colors, typography, and layouts. My experience across various media—web, print, and video—enables me to create a consistent and coherent design that meets the unique requirements of each medium.
In addition to web & motion design, alphanull also produces classic print products, such as business cards, flyers, and displays.

I am a full stack frontend developer specializing in web development. I love playing with new technologies and being challenged by complex requirements. And since designer and developer are just a few neurons away in the same brain, I understand precisely what the designer envisions and how to implement those ideas effectively.

Web Frontends
The frontend refers to the software layer executed in the browser, encompassing the graphical interface and its behavior. Composed of HTML, SCSS, and JavaScript, alphanull can create complete frontends for any website or application, including custom graphical widgets & components.
Web Apps
Web apps are essentially webpages that function like traditional applications while running in the browser. alphanull is able to use its own framework with selected components that work seamlessly with Vue.js, resulting in well optimized, secure, and user-friendly applications that integrate with any backend.
API Design & Modelling
APIs act as the bridge between backend and frontend, defining communication and data formats. alphanull specializes in designing REST APIs with carefully crafted conventions and a custom format for the metadata transmitted. This integration works seamlessly with my components and framework, but is also adaptable for any other requirements.
WordPress
alphanull can build complete websites using WordPress, including a customized theme and overall setup. Each project features a carefully curated selection of standard plugins for essential functions like backups, SEO, cookie banners, and analytics. Any further customizations tailored to specific client requirements can also be implemented.
Static Sites
Static sites can often be a better choice than CMS solutions like WordPress. They are generally faster, more secure and easier to set up, requiring minimal maintenance. alphanull utilizes Astro for creating these sites, leveraging templates and reusable modular components to streamline the process.
